Fleet Management Solutions has been drawing in the crowds with its new Iridium satellite network of asset management products. With visitors from Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Oman the stand has been inundated with potential clients from the region.
“We’re currently the only company with interactive fleet management tools actually up and running on Iridium’s network of 66 satellites. This fact has drawn a great deal of interest from customers,” explains Brian Meek, vice president for Fleet Management Solutions.
The asset tracking and management specialists are displaying a range of low earth orbiting satellite (LEOS) based mobile products to potential distributors and end-users and is impressed with the number of visitors that have expressed interest at GITEX Technology Week.
“It’s very interesting to meet so many people from across the Middle East, but we’ve also had quite a number of visitors from outside the region this week. This includes people from South Africa, Zambia, India and Pakistan,” says Meek.
The range of web and satellite based technology that the firm is bringing to the market incorporate remote vehicle diagnostics and two way text messaging facilities through the Orbcomm and Iridium LEOS networks. Since the system is 100% satellite based asset data, such as location, speed, and diagnostics can be communicated via the internet to fleet managers anywhere, anytime and updated every few seconds.
“The diversity of applications has been one of the key factors in our success in the Middle East,” says Meek. “Within the booming construction industry the technology is deployed to asset track high value machinery and for logistics the products are deployed to manage fleets of vehicles over the entire region. We’ve recently had interest from a water-taxi service too.”
As well as vehicular management, the increasing global emphasis placed on supply chain security has driven the adoption and integration of the technology with infra-red cargo sensors to update shippers with information on containers continuously.
