The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) launched a nationwide awareness campaign in cooperation with a number of government agencies ahead of the introduction of the personal data protection system in the country.

The new data protection system will come into force from Thursday, September 14. Following the issue of a Royal Decree No. (M/19) and its amendments issued is a separate Royal Decree (M/148).

Ask Before: Raising awareness of data protection

The campaign, titled “Ask Before”, is aimed at raising awareness of the importance of personal data and its role in improving the services provided to community members and entities in the country.

The campaign, among other things, focuses on enhancing awareness of the shared responsibility between individuals and entities in protecting personal data, preserving individuals’ privacy related to it, and clarifying the role that consciously sharing personal data plays in facilitating the services provided to individuals and improving their quality.

The awareness campaign on the personal data protection system seeks to build the principle of trust and joint action between entities and individuals with regard to dealing with personal data, in a way that adds stability to transactions related to this type of data, and achieves the goals of creating a data-based digital economy.
