Emirates diamond encrusted Boeing 777 plane ‘not real’

Emirates calms exciting air passengers after sharing tweet posted by artist Sara Shakeel

Dubai-based Emirates has calmed excited air passengers after sharing an image of one of its aircraft covered in diamonds on social media.

The airline has confirmed that the picture posted on Twitter, which showed shows a Boeing 777 plane encrusted with diamonds, is not real and was created by Sara Shakeel, a crystal artist.

“Presenting the Emirates ‘Bling’ 777,” the caption on the Emirates Twitter account read.

“We just posted an art piece made by crystal artist Sara Shakeel,” an Emirates spokesperson told Dubai daily Gulf News. “I can confirm it’s not [real].”

Shakeel is a Pakistani artist with close to 500,000 followers.

“I add crystals and diamonds to the most ordinary objects of everyday life,” she was quoted by Forbes in an interview.
