Ajman Transport Authority has become the first entity in the UAE to implement open and contactless payment technology across its public bus network.
The new system enables passengers to pay for their journeys using bank cards, digital wallets including Apple Pay and Google Pay, as well as wearable devices such as smartwatches.
Smart payment devices have been installed throughout the entire public bus fleet.
The service is currently operational on internal routes, with plans to extend the functionality to external routes soon, the Emirates News Agency (WAM) said in a statement on Wednesday.
Ajman Transport Authority enhances ‘Masaar Travel’ app with new features
In addition to the contactless payment system, the authority has upgraded its ‘Masaar Travel’ application.
The enhanced app allows users to plan journeys, monitor buses in real-time, connect their bank cards and review travel history.
The implementation of these technologies aims to improve the overall public transport experience in Ajman while supporting the emirate’s broader digital transformation goals.
