Iraqi Airways has issued an apology following an incident on one of its flights from Baghdad to Dubai.
A bear, being transported on the passenger flight, managed to break free from its crate within the cargo hold, causing a series of delays and disruptions on Friday.
Upon arrival at Dubai International Airport (DXB), the sedated bear had to be carefully extracted from the aircraft with the assistance of a specialised team dispatched by UAE authorities.
The unexpected turn of events led to the postponement of a subsequent return flight from Dubai to Baghdad.
In an official statement published on their website, Iraqi Airways expressed regret for the situation, attributing the delay to circumstances beyond their control.
“The company apologises to the passengers of the flight from Baghdad International Airport to Dubai Airport for reasons beyond the control of the company,” the airline’s statement read.
Despite the disruption, the airline assured that the bear’s transportation was conducted in accordance with international animal welfare guidelines.
Although the statement did not reveal the purpose of the bear’s journey to the UAE, the airline refrained from providing further details regarding the animal’s well-being or the specific circumstances surrounding the incident.
