Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), has announced a new programme for certifying motorcyclists of delivery companies in the emirate.

The move is part of the emirate’s efforts to improve the performance of delivery motorbike riders thus improving the service to consumers and customers.

“Such certification will also enhance the daily delivery operations in the emirate,” the RTA said.

RTA, which is represented by the Licensing Agency, said that companies must note that all the motorcyclists associated with them fulfil the requirements of obtaining the new certificate, which is available through electronic platforms and mobile applications.

Based on its strategic directions, RTA continuously seeks to raise the efficiency of the delivery business and the safety of delivery riders, RTA said adding that a comprehensive practical and theoretical training programme has been developed for this purpose.

All delivery personnel must go through the basics of defensive driving, safety requirements, and the periodic maintenance of bikes among others within the programme, the government entity said.

“Certificates will be issued to bikers after ensuring that they meet the professional requirements, and can mitigate the associated risks besides raising traffic safety,” RTA said, adding that companies must register their riders at one of the institutes accredited by RTA.

The accredited institutes are:

  • Al Ahli Driving Centre
  • Belhasa Driving Centre
  • Bin Yaber Driving Institute
  • Dubai Driving Centre
  • Emirates Driving Institute
  • Emirates Transport Driving Institute
  • Excellence Driving
  • Galadari Driving Centre

All companies operating in the food delivery business must also register riders to avoid violations of the applicable laws and regulations, RTA said, calling on all companies working in the delivery sector to “cooperate out of their social responsibility to raise the efficiency of this vital economic and service sector and at the same time maintain the safety of their riders.”
