Dubai public transport fares is among the cheapest cities, a monthly pass costs AED350, which is only 2.3 percent of the average net wage in the UAE, new research by Picodi.com revealed.
Among the most expensive cities are London ($5.19), Zurich ($4.75) and Oslo ($3.91).
Dubai ranks among the top 10 cities with the most affordable public transport in the world, derived by comparing the cost of a monthly pass to the average net wage. Topping the charts is Sao Paolo, followed by Istanbul, London, Melbourne, Toronto and Paris.

In three cities, public transport is completely free for citizens – Luxembourg, the capital of Estonia, Tallinn and Valletta.
The highest prices for monthly passes are paid by citizens of London ($271), Melbourne ($190) and Dublin ($166). For comparison, a monthly pass in Dubai costs only $95.
Among the seven Emirates in the UAE, Dubai has the most expensive single journey ticket at a cost of AED7.50, followed by Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman and Abu Dhabi with the least cost of a single journey ticket at AED2.

Monthly passes in the UAE are only available in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi. When it comes to monthly passes, residents of Dubai pay the highest price of AED140. The cheapest monthly pass can be found in Abu Dhabi at AED80.
The study was based on prices of single and monthly passes as of March 2023. Average net wages were taken from numbeo.com.
Cities which have multiple public transport providers were not included in the study including Tokyo, Beijing, Jakarta, and Bangkok. Cities without a monthly pass option were also excluded from the study.
