Indian low-cost airline IndiGo is reportedly looking at enabling codeshare connectivity to the US and Canada through its partnership with Turkish Airlines.
IndiGo’s move comes just days after reports about Emirates exploring a codeshare pact with the Tata Group-led Air India.
The Gurugram-based airline has received an approval from India’s ministry of civil aviation which allowed the carrier to wet lease up to two planes for operating flights to the US and Canada, according to a PTI report.
IndiGo, however, declined to confirm the report.
“At present, our objective is to enable codeshare connectivity to the US and Canada via our partnership with Turkish Airlines after the required application and approval process,” PTI quoted the airline’s statement as saying.
The airline started operating a wide-body Boeing 777 on the Delhi-Istanbul route from February this year, with a plane taken on wet lease from Turkish Airlines.
A codeshare agreement allows an airline to book its passengers on its partner carriers, enabling seamless travel where it has no presence.
The arrangement also aids better route options for both carriers in agreement.
