Lufthansa German Airlines has announced plans to launch flights to Pakistan.
The German carrier will fly between Karachi and Frankfurt via Lahore from October 28.
Joachim Steinbach, Lufthansa’s vice president of sales and services for southeast Europe, Africa and Middle East-Pakistan, believes the route will benefit business travellers that regularly board flights.
“Our passengers will have access to the extensive route network of Lufthansa connecting through the Lufthansa hub Frankfurt to other European destinations as well as to the US,” he said.
Steinbach added that the service will reduce travel time by three hours compared with other connecting flights between the Gulf and Europe.
The new destination is also expected to establish Lufthansa further in the Middle East, developing its economic ties with the region. “Over the years, direct investments into the economy of Pakistan, also from the UAE, have considerably increased and in recent times the country has witnessed the physical presence of many multinational companies in Karachi and Lahore,” a Lufthansa statement said.
To coincide with the new flight, Lufthansa is increasing its presence in the country. On August 1, Ian Patrick will take over as country manager for Pakistan, while also overseeing Afghanistan.
Patrick previously acted as marketing and route feasibility consultant for several airlines. His appointment ends Kamal Syed’s spell in the same role. Before his departure, Syed’s main priority will be managing operations for the inaugural flight in October.
Aside from launching new routes, Lufthansa’s board is also expanding the airline’s fleet. It has 15 A380s on order – more than any other European airline.
