Several people on board a German private plane were injured after the aircraft rolled uncontrollably after hitting turbulence caused by an Emirates jet flying above it, it was reported on Wednesday.
One person reportedly sustained serious injuries in the incident while the aircraft, operated by German carrier MHS Aviation, had to be written off, the UK’s Daily Mail reported.
It said the private plane flipped upside down, rolled and then plunged 10,000ft. Once the pilots recovered the plane it was forced to make an emergency landing.
The incident happened on January 7, when the Bombardier Challenger 604 business jet was about 630 nautical miles southeast of Muscat, Oman, when it reportedly flew 1,000ft below an Emirates Airbus A380 flying from Dubai to Sydney in the opposite direction, the paper said.
Although the accident occurred two-and-a-half months ago, information of the incident was only recently revealed in a report by the Aviation Herald.
Germany’s Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU) is reportedly investigating the incident, despite it happening in international waters.
An Emirates spokesperson: “Safety is our number one priority and all of Emirates’ flight operations are carefully managed within all applicable regulations and protocols. The incident you mentioned is under investigation by the relevant authorities, and we refer you to them for any comment on this matter.”
