Qatar Airways has said it remains committed to serving the Australian market despite scaling back flights to Adelaide because of aircraft delivery delays.
Delays in delivery of new Airbus A350s has forced the airline to reduce its daily Adelaide service to five flights a week, Qatar Airways confirmed in a statement on Wednesday.
It followed reports in Australian Business Traveller that the airline intends to scrap flights from Adelaide to Doha on Wednesdays and Sundays, and from Doha to Adelaide on Tuesdays and Saturdays from October 30.
The reduced schedule is expected to remain in place until at least August 2017, the report said.
Adam Radwanski, Qatar Airways’ Australasia country manager, said in an emailed statement to Arabian Business: “Due to aircraft delivery delays, we will offer five weekly flights from Adelaide to our worldwide network of more than 150 destinations from 30 October 2016.
“Qatar Airways remain fully committed to the Australian market, and to the people and city of Adelaide.
“We will revert to a daily flight schedule for Adelaide as soon as we are able.”
The airline launched daily A350 flights between Doha and Adelaide in May as part of plans to expand in Australia.
