Expats in Kuwait must now pay electricity bills before leaving country

Kuwait Ministry of Interior begins collecting payments from expats before they are permitted to depart

Kuwait

Kuwait has introduced new rules insisting that expats settle electricity and water bills before they can leave the country.

The Ministry of Interior announced that enforcement of the rules began on September 1.

The new rules are based on the directives of the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Talal Khaled Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, on the need for coordination between government agencies and the Ministry of Interior to collect debts owed by foreigners before leaving the country.

Kuwait expat travel rules

The Ministry of the Interior said it will start to collect debts owed by foreigners to the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy before leaving the country.

It added that added that every foreigner wishing to leave the country, whatever the reason for leaving, must pay the electricity and water bills due, through electronic payment operations on the Ministry of Electricity and Water app or the “Sahl” app.

Alternatively, they can visit offices located in the land and sea outlets and Kuwait International Airport.

The Ministry of the Interior called on expats to abide by the laws and not to violate the new rules, as it will not hesitate to carry out its duty to maintain security and public order in the country.
