Qatar-owned Paris hotel wins France’s highest ranking

Katara Hospitality’s Le Royal Monceau – Raffles Paris is awarded an official ‘Palace Distinction’

Le Royal Monceau – Raffles Paris, the luxury hotel owned by Qatar’s Katara Hospitality, has been awarded an official “Palace Distinction”, meaning it has been branded one of the top six hotels in the French capital.

Atout France, the French Agency for Tourism Development, awarded the hotel the new distinction, which is one step higher than five stars and is France’s highest hotel ranking. While the French capital has nearly 2,000 hotels and aparthotels, only six hotels have been awarded the ‘Palace Distinction’.

“We are thrilled to be recognised as a palace hotel. I’d like to thank every single member of staff at the hotel, I know they have worked incredibly hard to get to this level,” said general manager Ömer Acar.

“I would also like to thank Raffles Hotels & Resorts and our owners Katara Hospitality for their continued support and strategic vision to make Le Royal Monceau Raffles Paris a next-generation palace, and one of the very best hotels in the world.”

The Palace Commission jury said the hotel was awarded the new rankings because of location near the Champs Elysées and the Arc de Triomphe, its glamorous heritage and it’s A-List guest list, which has included General Eisenhower, Walt Disney, King Farouk of Egypt, the Aga Khan, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Robert de Niro, Lou Reed, Jennifer Lopez, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sofia Coppola and Dustin Hoffman.

Owners Katara Hospitality is aiming to own or manage over 30 hotels and resorts by 2016 and a further 30 more over the following decade. Katara Hospitality currently owns six internationally branded hotels in Qatar. Besides Le Royal Monceau – Raffles Paris, its international portfolio includes the Raffles Hotel Singapore, Schweizerhof Hotel Bern and Renaissance Sharm El Sheikh Golden View Beach Resort in Egypt.

International properties under development include Bürgenstock Resort Lake Lucerne (opening 2015), Royal Savoy Lausanne (opening 2014), Gallia Hotel Milan (opening 2013), The Peninsula Hotel Paris (opening 2013), a luxury boutique hotel in Paris (opening 2013), Comoros Beach Resort (opening 2015), Tazi Palace Hotel Tangier (opening 2015), a hospitality complex in Gambia (opening 2016).
