Saudi Arabian Airlines (SAUDIA) served around 11.6 million passengers in the first half of the year – an 80 percent increase over the same period in 2021.
More than half of the recorded passengers traveled within the Saudi carrier’s rich domestic network at 6.2 million, while the remaining were from international flights.
Saudia’s scheduled and chartered flights increased by 33 percent to reach 80,500, the company said in a statement.
Airports in the region have recorded massive jumps in passenger traffic this year, as pandemic-induced restrictions gradually lift.
In the first of 2022, the airline launched new direct flight services to various tourist hotspots, including Amsterdam, Bangkok, and Marrakech.
The Saudi flag carrier also benefited from the return of physical events. It has been sponsoring major affairs including Formula E races, Riyadh Season, and Jeddah Season.
