After a tumultuous period marked by fluctuating demand and economic uncertainties, the global PC and smartphone market is finally expected to fully recover in 2026, generating $750 billion in revenue, according to a report by Stocklytics.com.
The past three years have been challenging for the industry, with a significant $40 billion spending drop in 2022 due to the pandemic-caused layoffs and economic uncertainties.
Despite a $30 billion rebound in sales last year, 2024 is bringing another downturn, with global spending on PCs and smartphones projected to drop by $10 billion year-over-year.
However, the latest spending drop has prolonged the long-awaited market recovery for two more years.
PC and smartphone sales
Global PC and smartphone sales are expected to generate $730 billion in revenue in 2025, slightly less than at the market peak, before rising to $750 billion by the end of 2026, showing a $20 billion increase compared to 2021 figures.
The mobile phone segment is poised to contribute significantly to the market recovery, with sales revenue projected to rise by $36 billion to $503 billion by 2026.
In contrast, the PC segment will see a more modest growth of $12 billion, reaching $231 billion by 2026.
The recovery in the smartphone segment is expected to be driven by growth in emerging markets, despite the impact of component shortages, inventory build-up, and longer replacement cycles, which have contributed to a $15 billion sales drop in the past three years.
As the global economy stabilises and consumer purchasing power improves, the PC and smartphone market is poised for a resurgence, with manufacturers and retailers preparing for increased demand and renewed growth opportunities.
