Cristiano Ronaldo Saudi transfer: CR7 signs for Al Nassr

Cristiano Ronaldo has signed for Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr.

The deal will run until 2025 and comes after Ronaldo left Manchester United following a controversial interview with Piers Morgan.

In a tweet confirming the signing Al Nassr said: “ History in the making. This is a signing that will not only inspire our club to achieve even greater success but inspire our league, our nation and future generations, boys and girls to be the best version of themselves.”

Ronaldo was seen holding up an Al Nassr shirt with the number 7 on the back.

“Welcome @Cristiano to your new home @AlNassrFC,” added the message.

Ronaldo will earn $214m per year in a contract that will run until June 2025. It is the highest salary ever paid to a professional footballer and will include off-field promotional activity as well as playing arrangements.

The Portugal captain, 37, is a free agent after leaving Manchester United following a controversial interview in which he criticised the club.

Al Nassr are nine-time Saudi Pro League champions.

Ronaldo left Man Utd earlier in November, releasing a statement saying: “Following talks with Manchester United, we’ve mutually agreed to end our contract. I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change. It feels like the right time to seek a new challenge. I wish Man Utd all the best”.

Manchester United, in turn, issued a statement saying: “The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford”.

They wished “him and his family well for the future” and added “everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team’s progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to deliver success on the pitch”.
