UAE gym-goers want selfie ban despite personal social media habits: Report

UAE gym-goers have revealed widespread frustration with social media behaviour according to a recent survey commissioned by insights agency Perspectus.

The poll of 2,000 frequent gym-goers uncovered that 61 percent support a complete ban on selfies and videos within fitness facilities.

In addition, 82 percent of respondents admitted to capturing selfies or workout videos to share on social media platforms.

The research demonstrated that 79 percent of UAE residents regularly attend gyms, with 89 percent emphasising the critical importance of health and fitness in their lives.

Other significant gym etiquette issues included:

  • 37 percent frustrated by users failing to clean equipment after use
  • 32 percent annoyed by individuals not returning weights to racks
  • 31 percent irritated by loud grunting/noises during weight-lifting
  • 30 percent bothered by people taking pictures with equipment without actually working out

The survey also revealed a detailed list of top 13 gym-related annoyances, ranging from content creation to unsolicited fitness advice.
