Two men have been sentenced to death and two minors were handed five year jail sentences for the murder of a car showroom security guard, it was reported.

A Doha court heard the four youths approached the showroom after hours and told the security guard they needed to enter the facility to retrieve a ball they had left inside.

Three of the youths strangled and kicked the guard to death and placed his body in one of the cars on display, according to a report by the Al Sharq newspaper.

The gang then stole another car and fled the scene.

The court sentenced two of the men to the death sentence, while the younger two, who were minors, were given five years in jail and will be deported.

Lawyers plan to appeal the sentencing, arguing the crime was not premeditated and have asked for the death sentence to be changed to jail time.

It is unlikely the two men will be executed as Qatar has not carried out an execution for more than a decade. The nationalities of those sentenced were not disclosed.
