Aussie hired to lead new era at Dubai’s BurJuman mall

Leigh Regan appointed as stalwart retail mall undergoes major expansion plan

An Australian national has been appointed to lead the management team at Dubai’s BurJuman Shopping Mall, it was announced on Sunday.

Leigh Regan will take the reins on February 1, ushering in a new era of growth for one of the stalwarts of Dubai’s retail scene.

An Australian national with more than 25 years of international experience in retail and real estate, Regan will lead the teams at BurJuman and Reef Mall .

“We welcome Leigh at a very exciting time for the business, as we near the completion of an extensive refurbishment project at BurJuman and look ahead to a new era of growth and success,” said Majid Saif Al Ghurair, president of BurJuman Centre and Reef Mall.

“Leigh has a particularly impressive track record in growing business and his experience in both Western and Asian markets make him ideal for a cosmopolitan market like Dubai.”

Regan moves to Dubai from Shanghai, China, where he oversaw the development of a number of landmark shopping centres.

He will take on the management responsibilities from outgoing general manager Eisa Adam, who will stay on in an advisory role during the crucial transitional phase, a statement said.

Al Ghurair added: “BurJuman’s position as a stalwart of Dubai’s retail scene is a product of Eisa’s committed leadership. We are truly grateful for Eisa’s charismatic stewardship of the business and for the drive and commitment which has helped us to enjoy great success for more than two decades.”

Work started a year ago on a major renovation of BurJuman Shopping Mall which will add a new Carrefour hypermarket and a 14-screen Vox Cinemas multiplex.

The redevelopment and expansion work means part of the mall will be temporarily closed for about 18 months.

Cadiz International Architects are the lead architects and Hyder Consulting are the engineers managing the design and supervision of the project which will add 200,000 sq ft of retail space to increase the total space to one million sq ft.
