The Global Knowledge Index was revealed on Thursday, 132 countries were on the list among which UAE ranked 25th and topped the GCC with the highest score. The Emirates also scored above the global average of 46.47 with a score of 58.93.
It helps identify sectors in need of development and provides data that help communities identify factors where growth is required.
US topped the list with a score of 68.37 followed by Switzerland in second place, Sweden, Finland, Netherlands and Luxembourg.
Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait made it to the top 50 of the list ranking 37th, 43rd and 47th respectively.
The report states that UAE is a key performer in terms of its knowledge infrastructure.
The areas of strength highlighted are:
- Active mobile-broadband subscriptions per hundred inhabitants
- Mobile upload and download speed
- Educational attainment are, bachelor’s or equivalent
- Households with internet access at home
- Fixed broadband basket (% GNI per capita)
The areas of improvement:
- Social protection coverage
- Researchers in higher education
- Academic freedom
- Ecological footprint per capita
- Industrial design applications
