The number of water accounts with Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has grown to more than one million accounts this year, Dubai Media Office said in a statement.

DEWA chief executive Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer revealed the total number of water accounts reached 1,048,913 accounts by the end of 2023. This is compared to 995,478 accounts at the end of last year, representing a rise of around 5.1 percent.

Al Tayer attributed the growth to the economic prosperity Dubai is witnessing and the increase in demand for DEWA’s services. It also enhances DEWA’s sustainable growth and supports the Dubai Economic Agenda, the statement added.

Dubai economy to double under ambitious D33 masterplan

Dubai’s economy aims to double in size over the next decade under its D33 plans. The agenda targets positioning Dubai among the top three economic cities globally.

According to Al Tayer, Dubai has retained the top spot as the “most liveable city in the Middle East and North Africa region for the fifth consecutive year.” He credited DEWA for keeping pace with Dubai’s expansion by increasing its production capacity.

“Utilising innovation and the latest disruptive technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution has helped DEWA provide its services according to the highest standards of availability, reliability, efficiency, and quality to ensure we provide the best facilities for the best city in the world,” he added.

DEWA operates the largest desalination plant in the world. Its Jebel Ali Power and Desalination Complex can produce up to 2.2 billion litres of water per day, according to a Guinness World Record.
