Kuwait introduces new visit visas; expat rules explained and full list of 53 visa-on-arrival countries

Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior announces new rules for visit visas

Kuwait has announced it will resume issuing visit visas for families, tourism and commercial visitors.

In compliance with the instructions of Deputy Prime Minister, Defence Minister and Acting Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah it has decided to resume the issuance of entry visas under new conditions.

The new visas are part of a strategy to stimulate commercial, economic and tourist movements in the country, while taking into account the social aspects.

Kuwait visit visas

The new visas will be issued from Wednesday, February 7.

Certain conditions are required for the issuance of visit visas for expat family members, including minimum salary and proof of return air tickets.

The visa is granted to the parents, wife and children of expats workers provided their salary is not less than KD400 ($1,300) and not less than KD800 ($2,600) for other relatives.

Other terms and conditions that must be met to issue the visa, include:

  • A round trip travel ticket on airlines affiliated with national airlines
  • A written pledge not to demand that these visits be transferred into residence in Kuwait
  • A pledge to adhere to the duration of the visit
  • Any visitor treatment will be in private hospitals and medical centres, as the treatment will not be permitted in government hospitals

If the visitor violates the specified period of stay, the General Department of Residency Affairs Investigations will include both the visitor and sponsor to the Security Control System, through which the violator will be followed up by the General Department of Residency Affairs Investigations and the followed legal measures for violators of Foreigners Residency Law will be applied.

Commercial Visa

It is issued upon a request submitted by Kuwaiti companies and institutions and granted to persons holding university or technical qualifications and in compliance with the company’s activity and the nature of its work.

Tourist Visa

For the persons of 53 countries, the visa is granted to them either directly from the port of entry upon arrival to the country or through the electronic visa on the Ministry of Interior website.

For residents of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries where the tourism visa is issued to persons with professions specified in the Ministerial Resolution no. 2030/2008 and its amendments, in accordance with the designated regulations and conditions in the aforementioned Ministerial Resolution.

Through the hotels and companies that have been automatic link with the General Department of Residency Affairs according to the applicable conditions.

Citizens of these countries are eligible for a visa-on arrival in Kuwait:
