Renewables developer Masdar has launched an online platform to engage young people in the fight against climate change, as climate change pressure continues to weigh on oil-rich Gulf.

The SkillUp platform, as part of the Abu Dhabi firm’s Youth 4 Sustainability global initiative, aims to equip one million young people by 2030 with skills necessary in the climate action, Masdar said in a statement.

“Empowering young people to become sustainability champions is the core mission for Y4S as we at Masdar recognise that young people have significant untapped potential to drive sustainable change, and it’s critical that we educate and prepare them now to meaningfully contribute to our global energy transition,” Lamya Nawaf Fawwaz, the company’s executive director of bran and strategic initiatives, said.

The platform will include self-paced classes anchored on achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals – which Masdar claims could also improve employability in a transitional global economy.

It will provide 42 hours of courses spanning five categories, including knowledge, personal, people, cognitive, and design thinking. Participants can get certificates after completing specific courses.
