Burj Khalifa architects to design another Dubai tower

Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, who also designed Kingdom Tower in Saudi Arabia, have been appointed to create the world’s tallest commercial building

The architects behind Dubai’s Burj Khalifa and the Kingdom Tower in Saudi Arabia have been appointed to design what is being promoted as the future world’s tallest commercial tower in Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT).

Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture will work with WATG, a destination creation consultancy that has been involved in The Atlantis hotel on The Palm Jumeirah, Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi and the Grand Hyatt in Kuala Lumpur, DMCC (formerly Dubai Multi Commodities Centre) said in a statement.

The potential tower was announced in 2013 but specific details including how tall it would be have not been determined.

Called the ‘Burj 2020 District’, the mixed-use, 1.3m square metre area would include commercial, retail and hotel space.
