A 25-year-old housemaid has returned home to Indonesia after suffering a brutal attack at the hands of her sponsor in Qatar, it emerged on Thursday.
Doha News reported that the unnamed woman was hospitalised after her employer attacked her.
She was left with multiple bruises, a broken wrist and a gash on her skull that required six stitches, and was then held for weeks in Qatar’s detention center for expats awaiting deportation.
The woman told the newspaper last month that she had been abused for almost two years and had escaped her employer’s home after being beaten with a metal hosepipe.
However, the woman claimed not to have been interviewed by police despite spending three days at Doha’s Hamad Hospital, and it remains unclear whether an official investigation was ever launched.
Doha News cited government documents suggesting the woman had received QR8,500 for seven months of unpaid wages and to pay for her return ticket home.
