Submissions due for Oman airport

The Omani Ministry of Transport and Communication has invited bids for the construction of the Ras Al Hadd Airport in Muscat, Oman.

The last submission date for bids is 9 June.

The site will be located 15kms away from the existing Seeb International Airport.

The value of the contract is expected to be in the region of US $680 million (OMR262 million).

Companies that have submitted bids for the project are Desert Line Projects Company; Nagarjuna Construction Company; Combined Group Contracting Company; Samwhan Corporation; Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction Company; Strabag Oman Company; CZMT Invest AG; Bahran Contracting Company; Galfar Engineering and Contracting Company; Arab Centre for Commerce and Real Estate; International Contractors Company; CNA International; Alsim AlarkoSanayi Tesisleri Ve Ticaret Company; Al Shanfri Trading Company; Sinohydo Corporation; and Oman Gulf Company.

The airport will be constructed on a greenfield site and will form part of a wider plan to overhaul the nation’s air travel facilities, to meet the growing need from passengers in both the business and tourism sectors.

In total, Oman is developing six airports. They will link the capital Muscat with the interior, and other popular tourist destinations along the coast of the country.

The new airport will have a capacity of 12 million passengers a year during the first phase, increasing to 48 million eventually. The first phase is expected to be complete within three years. The current airport at Seeb handles just 4.2 million passengers a year.

KV Rangaswamy, president, construction division of Larsen & Toubro said: “Larsen & Toubro has got major construction contracts for the Mumbai and Delhi airports, including terminal buildings and runways. We are involved in the construction and expansion of the new airports.”
