The Egyptian government is set to announce an initiative aimed at putting a PC in every home.
Government agencies have been screening potential technology partners – some Egyptian, some multinational – for the supply of either desktop or notebook PCs for the programme.
Acer Computer Middle East and Mantrac have already announced that they have been on a government short list, and hope to become the largest suppliers for the project.
Details of the government initiative are still under wraps, but Shashank Sharma, Acer’s country manager for Egypt, Saudi Arabia and East Africa, suggests that simple, cost effective computing will be the highest priorities for the initiative.
