Plans to build a Metro rapid transit system in Kuwait took a big step forward on Sunday.
Feasilibility studies into the ambitious project by Kuwait Transportation Union have been approved by the country’s higher committee and a report will now go to the cabinet for further debate, said Minister Abdulrahman Al-Ghunaim.
He said the project would be vital in helping to transform Kuwait into a financial and commercial centre.
Al-Ghunaim added that the Metro system would also help to reduce traffic congestion, which he said had become a problem in the country.
The Minister told KUNA, the Kuwaiti news agency, that the private sector would have a leading role to play in the success of the project.
