Dubai airports have welcome 26m passengers in the first half of 2023, according to the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA).
The airports’ efficiently handled 9m travellers using cutting-edge smart gates to seamlessly pass through entry and exit procedures in seconds.
The figure represents 36 per cent of all passengers at Dubai airports using the smart gates.

Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director General of GDRFA, said that, through meticulous planning and preparation, the passport counters and smart gates at Dubai Airports are exceptionally equipped to handle passenger volumes surpassing initial projections.
He attributed this capacity to forward-thinking strategies and commendable collaboration with strategic partners.
Additionally, Al Marri highlighted that GDRFA Dubai is committed to delivering top-tier services by leveraging artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and smart-gate technologies.
These innovations play a significant role in streamlining passenger flow, thus reducing congestion and wait times.
Talal Ahmed Al Shanqiti, Assistant General Director of the Airport Passport Affairs Sector, said that 36 per cent of passengers made use of smart gates during the first half of the year.
He expressed the department’s aspiration to increase this number to 50 per cent by the end of the year.
Al Shanqiti urged travellers to verify the validity of their passports in advance and to use smart gates and other advanced services to expedite their journeys.
Al Shanqiti also extended his appreciation to strategic partners for their crucial role in these developments.
