Dubai has emerged as the most popular destination in the world for users on social media giant TikTok, beating New York City which was last year’s number one.
The UAE emirate ranked number one in the study called “TikTok Travel Index 2022,” which covered 140 cities. It was conducted by luggage storage company Bounce.
Posts featuring the hashtag “#Dubai” had 81.8 billion views on the social app, surpassing New York City with 59.5 billion views and London at 36.8 billion views.
“Synonymous with wealth and luxury, Dubai has become one of the most sought-after destinations for holidaymakers who want to soak up the sun in style. This ultra-modern city is home to some of the world’s most astounding architecture, such as the tallest building on Earth, the Burj Khalifa,” a statement from Bounce read.
Dubai’s travel and tourism sector has revived itself, after the pandemic which struck in 2020. Backed with safety protocols, strict regulations and crowd control, the emirate is now among the safest places to travel for a holiday.
The emirate welcomed 6.17 million international visitors from January to May 2022, showing a 197 percent year-on-year (YoY) increase when compared to the same period in 2021, which saw the destination attracting just over two million international travellers, according to government data.
