Six Senses on Tuesday announced the appointment of Fredrik Blomqvist as the general manager of Southern Dunes, its first property in Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Project.

The appointment is seen as its move to accelerate the opening of the hospitality project, scheduled to open its doors late 2023.

Blomqvist, a Swedish national and a graduate of the International Hotel Management Institute in Lucerne, Switzerland, brings more than two decades of luxury hotel experience.

Before joining Six Senses Southern Dunes, Fredrik worked with Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts for over 16 years across the globe including Ireland, the US, China, Thailand, Indonesia and India.

Commenting on his new role, Blomqvist said he looked forward to creating history and pioneering the future with the talented team at Six Senses to deliver unforgettable experiences for its guests.

“The Red Sea region is exceptional in its natural beauty and history, and weaving this into our unscripted service and personalised delivery will create unforgettable experiences,” he said.

“We are honored to be the pioneering hotel at The Red Sea Global project, a prestigious luxury hotel hub and showcase for regenerative tourism,” he added.

Nestled between Umluj and Al Wajh, among golden shimmering dunes, volcanic rocks and mountain ranges, the resort is the first in Saudi Arabia to fully run on solar energy.
