UAE’s Rotana to open first Mauritania hotel

Hotel operator to expand its alcohol-free Rayhaan brand to west African country

UAE-based hotel operator Rotana said on Sunday it has signed a management contract with Al Majmoua Almouritania pour l’Investissement (MMI) to manage a property in Mauritania.

The five-star hotel will be located within the Ribat Al Bahar project in the capital of Nouakchott, the company said in a statement.

The hotel will open under Rotana’s Rayhaan Hotels & Resorts by Rotana brand, its alcohol-free sector and is slated for completion in 2014.

Makram El Zyr, corporate vice president – Development, Rotana, said: “The impressive growth in the number of Rotana properties is powered by a consistency in ‘getting it right’ first time, every time.

“This agreement represents an important achievement for Rotana, and a major milestone in our strategy to expand in the African and Maghreb markets.”

He said the new Rayhaan hotel was its first property in Mauritania which aims to piggyback off a “growing business and tourism market”.

Khaled Al Aboudi, chairman, MMI, said he had chosen Rotana as a partner for “its deep understanding of Arabic and Islamic culture and values”.

The hotel will be located on the southern sea-front of the mixed-use Ribat al Bahar project and will include more than 230 rooms, restaurants, meeting rooms, swimming pools, and a gym,.

Rotana currently manages a portfolio of over 70 properties throughout the Middle East.

Mauritania is an Arab Maghreb country in West Africa.
