The President of Saudi Arabia’s King Abdulaziz University was removed from his position by Royal Decree on Friday, according to a statement carried by SPA.

Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Obaid Al Youbi was removed for “crimes of exploiting the influence of the position for personal interest, embezzlement of King Abdulaziz University funds, money laundering and forgery,” SPA said.

No further details were given, although the decree did note that the Control and Anti-Corruption Authority will now carry out legal procedures against the former President.

Al-Youbi had been president of King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah since 2016 and had held the position of chairman of the university’s Prince Khalid Al-Faisal Centre for Moderation.

He first began working at the university in 1981 and was made an assistant professor of physical chemistry in 1986. In 1992, Al-Youbi became an associate professor, before becoming a full professor in 2000.
