COVID-19 back to school UAE

Face masks will remain mandatory in schools once over a million students return for the new academic year next week, the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management (NCEMA) said in a press briefing on Tuesday.

The UAE government has updated its Covid-related national protocol in preparation for the school year, mandating schools to require a negative PCR test ahead of the first day – with no periodic testing needed.

Public and private school students are set to return on Monday, August 29.

NCEMA, who supervises the country’s pandemic response, said thermal scanners are no longer mandatory in schools, while social distancing measures are left in the discretion of individual facilities.

An option to work or study remotely for school staff and students should be available, NCEMA said.
