Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) recently announced a new service that delivers renewed driving licenses within two hours. Additionally, those who use Apple devices can also access their driving licenses in their Apple wallet using the official RTA app.
There are numerous delivery options offered by RTA upon license renewal including standard delivery, same day delivery, delivery within two hours and international delivery.
Delivery fees
- Standard delivery – AED20
- Same day delivery – AED35
- Delivery within two hours – AED50
- International delivery – AED50
Electronic licenses can be accessed on the Apple wallet through the RTA Dubai app.
Cost for driving license renewal
- Fees for customers under 21 years old:
- Driver’s license renewal fee: AED100
- Knowledge and Innovation fee: AED20
- Additional fees for mobile truck service (eye test and license renewal): AED500
- Fees for customers 21 years and older:
- Driver’s license renewal fee: AED300
- Additional fees for mobile truck service (eye test and license renewal): AED500
- Knowledge and Innovation fee: AED20
- Fees for evaluation test (driving license not renewed for over 10 years):
- Training file opening fee: AED200
- Learning application fee: AED100
- Handbook manual fee: AED50
- RTA test fee: AED200
- Delay fees in renewing the driving license: AED500
- Driver’s license renewal fee: AED300
- Knowledge and Innovation fee: AED20
The delay fine is calculated at a rate of AED10 per month from the expiration date of the license, with a maximum fine of AED500. The periodic renewal fees and evaluation test are only required if the license has been expired for more than 10 years.
The processing time for license renewal through the online portal or official website is five minutes.
The process for renewing a driving license involves the following steps:
- Visit an Eye Test Center to take an electronic eye test.
- Provide Emirates ID or driving license details, which are automatically retrieved by the system.
- To verify the customer’s identity, an OTP (One-Time Password) is sent to their registered phone number.
- Apply for renewal
- The system checks the status of the customer’s traffic file for validation.
- Review and confirm the details of their driving license before it is issued.
- Pay all necessary fees and fines using a credit card.
- While waiting for the original renewed license, the customer receives a temporary driving license via email.
