Emirates earlier launched plans to upgrade their interior cabins as well as add Premium Economy seats on 120 A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft.
In Emirates’ “largest known fleet” retrofit project, the airlines is set to “completely retrofit four aircrafts from start to finish every month, continuously for over 2 years.”
The project is set to begin in November as part of Emirates’ multi-billion dollar investment in its inflight customer experience.
Starting with the refresh of 67 A380s, the airline will then turn to upgrading 53 B777 aircrafts.
The overhaul will see nearly 4,000 of the airline’s new premium economy seats installed, which are already available on A380 routes to London, Paris and Sydney.
Emirates has said that “No other airline has handled a retrofit of this magnitude in-house, and there’s no blueprint for such an undertaking.”
“Therefore Emirates Engineering teams have been planning and testing extensively, to establish and streamline processes, and identify and address any possible snags,” the airline added.
The airline will also be refurbishing 728 first class suites, and upgrading over 5,000 business class seats to a new style and design when the project is complete in April 2025.
In addition, the airline will upgrade the carpets and stairs while also introducing “new tones and design motifs” to the cabin interior panels such as the ghaf trees native to the UAE.
Engineers began trials on an A380 in July, taking each cabin apart piece-by-piece and logging every step.
The airline will set up new purpose-built workshops at Emirates Engineering to repaint, re-trim and re-upholster the business and economy class seats with new covers and cushioning.
Emirates has reintroduced its A380 fleet on the Dubai-Perth route alongside scheduled daily A380 service from the Dubai hub to Bangalore to meet high customer demand.
