Tarek M. El Sayed doesn’t do small ambitions. He doesn’t settle for the status quo. In the world of global hospitality investment – an industry defined by risk, shifting markets, and the evolving tastes of luxury travellers – El Sayed has built a career on seeing the angles others miss.
“At ARTIC, our investment approach is driven by long-term growth, sustainability, and strategic portfolio management,” he says, a philosophy that has propelled his company into the upper echelons of global hospitality.
El Sayed isn’t just investing in hotels. He’s shaping destinations. As the Managing Director and CEO of Al Rayyan Tourism Investment Company (ARTIC), a wholly owned subsidiary of Al Faisal Holding, he has led the company’s expansion across the Middle East, North Africa, Europe, and North America.
The numbers tell the story: over 35 hotels, more than 2,000 residences, and partnerships with the biggest names in the industry – Marriott, Hilton, Four Seasons, Hyatt. But numbers alone don’t explain how ARTIC has positioned itself as a dominant force. The real story lies in its strategy and an ability to anticipate shifts in the luxury hospitality sector before they even happen.
“Innovation is at the heart of what we do,” El Sayed explains. While competitors chased traditional luxury, ARTIC pushed boundaries. “We were the first to introduce branded residences in Egypt and combine them within mixed-use developments,” he says, referencing the JW Marriott Residences and Ritz-Carlton Residences in New Cairo. This kind of innovation has become ARTIC’s signature, ensuring that every new investment not only meets but surpasses global expectations for hospitality and experience-driven living.
Experience is everything. “Today’s travellers seek more than just accommodation, they seek immersive experiences,” he says. This isn’t just marketing language – it’s the foundation of ARTIC’s growth. In a world where consumers are spending more on experiences than possessions, ARTIC’s properties cater to that shift, blending historic and cultural settings with high-end hospitality. The company understands that modern travellers are looking for places that reflect not just luxury, but also local culture, authenticity, and personal enrichment.
This shift is driving ARTIC’s future investments, with a growing focus on properties that integrate cutting-edge technology, wellness experiences, and curated services that appeal to a new generation of high-end travellers. Personalised guest experiences, AI-driven hospitality services, and ultra-customised luxury offerings are becoming core aspects of ARTIC’s hospitality roadmap.

Of course, managing a global portfolio isn’t just about vision. It’s about navigating complex regulatory environments, market fluctuations, and local dynamics. “Managing a diverse portfolio of over 35 hotels worldwide presents unique challenges,” El Sayed admits. But his approach is methodical, “We undertake comprehensive market research and risk assessments before making investment decisions. We have professional teams embedded in each region to ensure relationships with local stakeholders and compliance with regulatory frameworks.” The company also makes a point of continuously refining its approach, learning from every challenge faced, and adapting accordingly.
Partnerships play a crucial role in ARTIC’s success. El Sayed is deliberate in choosing collaborators. “Successful partnerships are built on shared values, a commitment to excellence, and a collaborative approach,” he explains. This strategy has allowed ARTIC to secure long-term relationships with the biggest names in hospitality. “Our strong relationships with Marriott, Hilton, Four Seasons, IHG, Hyatt, and other leading brands are the result of open communication, aligned goals, and mutual trust.” These relationships also give ARTIC access to some of the best operational expertise and technological advancements in the hospitality sector, ensuring that its properties stay ahead of the curve.
His ambition isn’t just about ARTIC’s balance sheet – it’s also about Qatar’s future. “Qatar’s Vision 2030 places a strong emphasis on economic diversification and the growth of a sustainable tourism sector,” he notes. ARTIC has played a key role in that vision, operating 12 hotels in Qatar and expanding the country’s hospitality infrastructure. During the 2022 FIFA World Cup, ARTIC’s properties were instrumental in hosting the world, reinforcing Qatar’s reputation as a top-tier destination. Beyond global events, ARTIC continues to position itself as a key player in the region’s economic growth, aligning its investments with Qatar’s broader development plans.
Sustainability is another pillar of ARTIC’s strategy. “Sustainability is a core value at ARTIC,” El Sayed says. That’s not just corporate jargon – it’s a financial and ethical imperative. “We actively implement eco-friendly practices across our portfolio, including energy-efficient systems, waste reduction programs, and sourcing sustainable materials.” The result? Lower operational costs, higher efficiency, and a growing appeal to eco-conscious travellers.
This commitment to sustainability extends beyond ARTIC’s operations. The company is increasingly investing in properties that meet international environmental certifications, adopting green building standards, and exploring the integration of smart energy management systems. As sustainability becomes a defining factor in consumer decision-making, ARTIC’s commitment to green technologies and environmentally responsible practices positions it well for the future.

El Sayed’s leadership philosophy is just as intentional as his investment approach. “At ARTIC, our people are our greatest asset. Empowering, supporting, and nurturing our teams is central to everything we do,” he says. That means fostering innovation, encouraging creativity, and ensuring that every employee feels valued. “By encouraging creativity and providing the right resources, we create an environment where our teams thrive, innovate, and drive excellence in every aspect of our operations.” A leader’s legacy, after all, is not just measured by financial success but by the culture they cultivate within their organisation.
And what about the future? El Sayed sees ARTIC continuing to push the envelope. “Looking ahead, I envision ARTIC expanding its global presence, pioneering sustainable and experiential hospitality concepts, and setting new benchmarks for excellence,” he says. But there’s something even bigger on the horizon. “We are exploring the possibility of floating ARTIC on a leading exchange, a move that will further strengthen our growth trajectory.” Such a move would position the firm even more prominently on the global investment stage, attracting new partnerships and unlocking fresh avenues for expansion.
For El Sayed, the goal isn’t just to lead – it’s to leave a lasting legacy. “My aspiration is for ARTIC to be recognised as a global leader in innovation, sustainability, and quality,” he says. And beyond just the numbers and the properties, he hopes the company’s work will inspire a new generation of hospitality entrepreneurs – visionaries who will take his work further, redefine luxury for the decades to come, and continue shaping the future of global travel. If his track record is anything to go by, that future isn’t just possible – it’s inevitable.
